The FCC's Blatant Power Grab: A Threat to Local Media Diversity The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has dealt a devastating blow to local TV station ownership rules, claiming that the move will "free" broadcasters from "undifferentiated passthroughs of national programming.

" However, this decision is nothing more than a transparent attempt by the FCC to consolidate media power and enrich large conglomerates like Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group.

The 39 percent rule, which was enacted two decades ago, limited local TV networks to no more than 39 percent of the country's total audience market.
