A Symbol of Nation Building or a Luxurious Trinket? The upcoming auction of Lee Kuan Yew's silver Montblanc Meisterstuck No 146 fountain pen has sparked debate about its true value.

With an estimated price tag of US$23,000 to US$39,000, some see it as a symbol of the nation's founding father, while others view it as a luxurious trinket fit for a king.

The estimate is significantly higher than the S$4,000 to S$6,000 range set in 2003 during the Lee Kuan Yew Family Collection charity auction.
